How do you apply to become bankrupt?

You apply for bankruptcy online through the official government bankruptcy page. Before starting your application, you need to provide an overview of your income, outgoings, and debts. The official site will guide you through this process. Before beginning, it is advised that you gather as much information on areas such as mortgage statements or wage slips.

You will typically hear from the adjudicator within 28 days of submitting your application. If they validate your application, you will then be issued with a bankruptcy order. Within two weeks, you will be appointed an official receiver. They are an officer of the court who will manage your bankruptcy and guide you through the process and detail all your debts and assets.
