Emergency Protection Orders

If the threat to the child’s wellbeing is imminent and dangerous then contact your local police immediately. If it is clear the child is suffering harm, but the local authority cannot decide the long-term future of the child then an: Emergency Protection Order can be applied for by the police, local authorities, doctors or close relatives.

You can apply if:

  1. The child is likely to suffer significant harm if he is not removed.
  2. The child may be harmed if moved to another place but is currently safe.
  3. A local authority or the NSPCC suspect the child’s welfare is in danger.

When this occurs, the child can be removed from the environment and put into short-term protection, this can be done without notice to parents or with little time to prepare the child.
